You Came, You Showed, HACK Loves You!

HACK's first exhibition, Show Us Your Thing, took place at Vlad the Retailer on Saturday, July 16.  It was a great two hours, with lots of returning members and new faces present.  Everyone put up a drawing of something they loved, we chatted, nibbled on foodstuff and had a raffle (or two).  Special thanks to Vlad the Retailer for hosting.  Check back at his amazing store for great finds or just say hi.  He's a real person and offered his space to us again, so perhaps we can do this real soon.

Email me for more info.  I hope to have a crit in August.  Let me know if you'd like to have your work discussed and I'll pencil you in.

More soon and thanks again for your support!

July 16: Show Us Your Thing at Gallows Gallery at VLAD the Retailer

HACK presents Show Us Your Thing, a two hour exhibition at Vlad the Retailer.

Where:  Gallows Gallery at Vlad the Retailer.

When:  Saturday, July 16 from 4-6pm.

Why:  Show Us Your Thing invites you to bring one drawing on paper of something you really like. It can be anything you really like. Really. Anything. Just draw it, get to VLAD the Retailer, hang it up and unwind with some really swell people. For space sake, let’s keep it no larger than 11”x14”, unframed. We’ll have push pins. You can tell us about your thing or simply let your thing speak for itself. You can spend 5 minutes on it or an eternity, we just wanna see that thing you love and how you draw it. Show us what you got, we don’t judge…

Anyone who can draw is welcome to take part in this special exhibition opportunity. If you can’t draw, pretend like you can ‘cause you might meet a friend who could one day save your life.

Vlad the Retailer is at 704 Heliotrope Drive, just north of Melrose. Arrive at 4:00pm so you can claim a good spot on the wall. Bring some food to share or be selfish and grab some ice cream at Scoops or a cup of joe from Cafecito Organico for yourself. Suggested $3 donation jug on-site to thank VLAD for his kindness and to help keep VLAD alive. Or better yet, buy something from him. He’ll like that.

This exhibition is presented by HACK (Hollywood Artists Critical Kollective).

Any questions? Just keep it to yourself, draw something and bring it to VLAD. Drawing is keen and HACK loves you already.

Show Us Your Thing.

H.A.C.K. #3 - Speed Crits at Happy

Hollywood Artists Critical Kollective:

Crit group next Saturday Oct. 9 at Happy (3:00pm). Anyone interested in being a victim? Let me know, I need two bodies to bring two works...Also, for Paper Trail artists I'm considering doing speed crits for anyone in the show who has work up. 5 min timed crits. Could be fun?

Give me your feedback.

Thanks! Paul

What the Heck is H.A.C.K?

H.A.C.K. (Hollywood Artists Critical Kollective) is a safe haven for visual artists in need of honest and direct feedback in a city full of fame, fakes and frauds.

We meet each month and pick 2-3 artists who want their work (1 painting, drawing, sculpture, video) picked apart, talked about and turned inside-out. Attendees must be prepared to talk about art; artists showing work must eat crow. Anyone is invited to attend whether you live in Hollywood or not. Artists should have a current body of work and be actively making art. College students are welcome.
Attendees must be respectful of artist and artists must be respectful of attendees. We encourage a free and honest exchange of thoughts and opinions.

H.A.C.K. will also meet periodically for gallery and musem field trips, movie screenings, studio visits and anything the group deems culturally enriching.

Email for more info and report back to this blog for future plans and additional info!
